About Us...

Veerle and Frank wish you a warm welcome to 'La Marquise'
Chambres et table d'hôtes en Morvan

Welcome to our website, dear visitor!

Since 2006, we swapped Belgium for France. After many holiday trips through France, we made the decision to choose the Morvan, a beautiful region in Burgundy. Chateau-Chinon became our final spot, and there we started our bed and breakfast, including the table 'hôtes, the guest table so to speak.
Previously, we were active in the restaurant sector, hence the logical decision to also offer the guest table.
Our home is in an originally Celtic region: the Morvan Regional Nature Park, some 600 kilometres from Ghent. La Marquise is part of Chateau Chinon, the capital of the Morvan where President Mitterrand was once mayor. This picturesque town has a host of cosy shops, bars, boutiques and sophisticated restaurants. The centre is even within walking distance (2 kilometres) from here. By the way, did you know that Morvan means "black mountain" in Celtic?

Relaxation for all...

The region provides numerous sports and leisure opportunities. You can walk here in the healthy air (1000 km of hiking trails) and mountain bike in the vast forests (9 signposted VTT routes in the immediate vicinity of Chateau Chinon). There is water recreation in and around the lakes; sailing, water skiing, jet skiing, swimming and kayaking, Lac des Settons even offers fishing opportunities. Winter is also here and you can even go cross-country skiing on Haut Foulin (900 metres) or Mont Beuvray.

Motorcycling in the wider region; the Morvan is known for its touring routes with breathtaking views and challenging curves. Chateau Chinon is around 70 kilometres from the Magny-Cours Formula 1 racing circuit.

...and lots to visit

The Morvan offers a wide range of possibilities to explore. The many castles in the area, the archaeological site Bibracte on Mont Beuvray (Vercingetorix the Gaul was proclaimed leader of the Gallic coalition there some 2,000 years ago), Vézelay with its breathtaking basilica, the city of Autun with its Gallo-Roman and medieval sites. Not to mention the numerous small villages and picturesque towns in the immediate vicinity....

Culinary delights abound: after all, you are in Burgundy! The various towns and village squares offer something for everyone: enjoy a fine wine, dine with two or enjoy an extensive gastronomy, everything is possible.

And then that peace, nature, the views that constantly alternate between forests and meadows. The least polluted air in Europe.
